ITEA 2 Symposium 2006

European research excellence for competitive soft-ware-intensive systems and services

More than 400 people attended the ITEA 2 Symposium 2006 in Paris on 5 and 6 October, opened by French industry minister Francois Loos. Software represents major added value in a growing variety of products and systems. It is therefore a priority for support at the industrial research level, particularly through the ITEA 2 programme that has become one of the most important platforms in Europe for innovation in software and services in embedded and distributed systems. “Members of the ITEA 2 community are doing a particularly good job and this initiative should be promoted,” said Loos.

Both the presentations and the accompanying project exhibition highlighted the impact of ITEA 2 research in terms of real product innovation that is boosting European competitiveness in a wide range of industries. ITEA 2 will co-operate with the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) through the new European Technology Platforms (ETPs), particularly ARTEMIS, NESSI, ENIAC and E-Mobility, and new local technology clusters.

Workshop Open Source Software and Product Lines (OSSPL06)

The workshop will be held during the 10th International Software Product Line Conference (SPLC 2006), in Baltimore , Maryland ( USA ) and is scheduled for 22 August 2006.

Workshop program committee members are (or have been) members of the Project Management Team of the ITEA project COSI. COSI is a European research project dealing with the use of Open Source Software in a Product Line context.

Open source software is getting much attention lately. Using open source software appears to be a profitable way to obtain good software. This is also applicable for organisations doing product line engineering. On the other hand, because of the diverse use of open source software, product line development is an attractive way of working for open source communities. However, at present open source communities and product line development organisations are not related. This workshop aims to get a better understanding between the two communities to get an insight how they can profit from each other.
